Protokoll IACA Hauptversammlung
Hier die highlights, leider auf Englisch:
The group saw a good discussions and decisions regarding finances, future events, and technical rules.
Finances and Event Hosting
- Entry Fees: The consensus was that 300 Eur for a big event as an entrance fee are outdated at least in some areas. Our president suggested the possibility of removing the fee limit entirely and letting the entry fee be determined by the market, though this would require a formal proposal from the National Associations.
- European Worlds 2027/2028: Perhaps the most important point was the lack of any bids for a World Championship in Europe for 2027 or 2028. All National Associations are strongly urged to re-examine their possibilities and submit proposals.
New Rules and Concepts - The proposal from Germany for an Early Finish Concept (Open) was adopted unanimously. This concept will now be implemented in the next two major regattas, starting with the event in Spain 26. A discussion also took place on whether the Early Finish could later be beneficial for the Classic too, as there have been instances of boats being lapped in this fleet as well.
- The proposal from Australia for a „Gate at the Top“ was also accepted by a two-thirds majority. However, there was a debate about whether this concept would function effectively in large fleets. This concept will also be tested at the next two events.
- Open Class Board Measurement: Next point was about whether the measurement rules for the daggerboards in the Open class should be adjusted (measurement only in sailing position). While several countries spoke in favor of this, a concrete proposal is still required. The last one from Poland in 2022 was not approved.
- The steel rudder blades introduced by Darren Bundock led to many inquiries, with concerns raised about a potential increase in costs. The discussion trended towards observing further development. It was noted that the current carbon rudder blades are already expensive and, due to the high speeds in the Open division, they become „soft(er)“ relatively quickly and must be replaced, at least among the top competitors, otherwise the boat can become difficult to control… r.
